Obituary For Trudy Kathleen Kapicki

Trudy Kapicki passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, November 4, 2024, in Grande Prairie, AB. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Trudy was born on February 28, 1951, in Hythe, AB. She was the oldest of three children. She spent her childhood years between the Town of Beaverlodge, AB, and their family farm near Valhalla Centre, AB. She graduated from high school in Hythe in 1969. Following graduation, she studied nursing at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB. During that time, she met her future husband Ronald “Ron” Kapicki. In 1972, she graduated as a registered nurse, and she and Ron were married that August.

In 1974, Trudy and Ron moved to Peace River, AB, to put down roots and raise a family. Trudy worked as a nurse in the Peace River Hospital until 1995. After nursing, she was employed with the North Peace Housing Foundation, where she spent several wonderful years as manager of the Heritage Tower Lodge senior’s residence. Trudy and Ron developed many lifelong friendships as members of the community and their church in Peace River.

In 2020, following retirement and the sale of their acreage, Trudy and Ron moved to Grande Prairie, AB, to be closer to family. Trudy delighted in her grandchildren, and being nearby allowed for the opportunity to make years full of many special memories.

In January of 2024, Trudy was diagnosed with leukemia. Over the course of the next ten months, Trudy would face her ongoing treatment and health challenges with strength, dignity, and grace. She made the most of each remaining day granted to her, cherishing time spent with family and visits from friends. Her trust in God and hope in eternity sustained her throughout this time, and she took great comfort in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

An incredibly creative woman, Trudy will be remembered as a master cook, baker, gardener, and seamstress. Most of all, she leaves a legacy of selfless generosity, steadfast love, and enduring kindness.

Trudy is survived by her husband Ron; son Aaron (Jennifer), and daughter Andrea (Emmanuel); her grandchildren: Elaina (Brycen), Benjamin, Daniel, Samuel, and Paisley; sister Carol; and brother Brian (Janice).

A celebration of life service will be held for Trudy on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Westpointe Community Church (11305 Pinnacle Blvd).

Memorial donations may be made to one of the following charities:
