Obituary For Vernon Dale Landry

Vernon Dale Landry, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the age of 58 years.

Vernon was the third of three children born to Dale and Mona (nee Cook) Landry on July 9, 1963, in Grande Prairie.

Vern spent the first years of his life in the community of Grovedale, AB. The Landry family later moved to a farm near Dimsdale, AB. Early in Vern’s life, it became evident that he enjoyed operating equipment as he became involved in his father’s business of farming and civil construction. His love of the outdoors became apparent and led to a career working in the Woodlands area for Weyerhaeuser, where he was involved in the logging industry as an equipment operator for 25 years. His favourite was the feller buncher. Vern loved the remote outdoors and the more remote, the better. The last five years he spent working on his own gravel and logging trucking business.

Vern was led to the Lord by his older sister Karen (Landry) Tarsuik, when he was nine years old in their camping trailer. He served the Lord for the entirety of his life. One of his favourite roles in church was to greet people at the door.

On April 27, 1991, he married Pamela Grace Skinner in Grande Prairie. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in April. During their marriage, they resided in five homes in the Grande Prairie area. Vern and Pam worked together to build three of them.

Hobbies Vern enjoyed were hunting, fishing trips, snowmobiling, quading, camping, etc. As many times as we’ve all heard the stories from these experiences, Vern knew how to tell it again to make us all laugh just as hard as before. Driving around the Peace Country and southern areas of Grande Prairie in his pickup was his quiet place with God. Many of these trips were taken with the family, followed by a trip to the Dairy Queen of course. Meeting new people and finding connections with his joyful personality and jokes was a gift he always had, and will be greatly missed.

Vern is survived by his loving wife Pam and their children: Chelsea (Chris) Walter, Kyla Landry, and Craig Landry; sister Karen (Landry) and Murray Tarsiuk and family; as well as one grandchild on the way (Chelsea and Chris Walter).

Vern was predeceased by his parents Dale and Mona Landry, and his sister Joyce (nee Landry) Dean.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Vern’s life will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 1:00pm, at Victory Church in Grande Prairie (7702 100 St).

The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors at the QEII Hospital and the dialysis unit for the outstanding care Vern has received over the last couple of years. As well as a warm thank you to friends, family, and the Victory Church pastors and staff for their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Burden Bearers Counselling located in Grande Prairie would be appreciated. Please visit https://www.burdenbearersgp.com/donate for donation options.

Pam and family unfortunately we are unable to attend Vern's memorial. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time . Dale, Charlotte, and family A fond memory we would like to share is when Pam and Vern lived by Richmond hill. We went to drop off our daughter as Pam and Vern were going to babysit Breann so we could have a date night. When we arrived at the front door step we found Vern's muddy work boots propping up his muddy work pants. It was obvious he was not allowed in the house with muddy clothes and had stripped down before going in the house! Only Vern would leave the clothes out for the neighbors to find and remember they were newly weds at that time! Beautiful memories
