Obituary For Verta R. Gibson

Verta R. Gibson, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the age of 73 years.

Verta was born April 1, 1944 in Saint. John, NB, the only child of Bruce and Verta Gibson. She was raised in Nerepis, NB.

She was an ambitious, strong-willed woman who was determined to be accomplished. She earned in her lifetime: a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Sociology, a Master’s Degree in Education, 2 years of Law, and a Counselling Degree. She served as an RCMP Officer for a short time before becoming a teacher. She taught for 22 years before retiring. Verta spent her last years as a Costco employee, either greeting you “Hello”, or wishing you a great day.

Verta was a lifetime dog enthusiast. She spent many years showing and competing dogs. She leaves behind four precious babies who are well cared for in their new homes.

Verta’s spare time was spent crafting, whether knitting, crocheting, or her favorite: quilting!

She was quick as a whip, and never afraid to speak her mind. Her kind heart led her to be a most helpful, involved teacher, parent, and friend. She held a special place in her heart for her most special students.

You could always find her enjoying her spare time with various friends and family, having meals, or just coffee at a multitude of locations around town.

Verta will be remembered by her sons: Doug (Cindy) Hooper, and David (Tammy) Hooper; grandchildren Brett, Bailey, Lindsey, Samantha, and Curtis; great-grandchild: Hudson; very close friends: Jamie and Rodney, Katherine, Stephanie, Joan, Margaret, Cheryl, and Mary and Roger.

She was predeceased by her mother Verta R. Gibson, and father Bruce R. Gibson.

There will never be enough thanks for the Nurses on 5 North QEII and in Homecare, as well as Dr. Beekman. Verta spoke highly of you all and the great care you gave her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11:00am, at the Grande Prairie Legion (9912 101 Ave.).

Memorial donations may be made to Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association (8618 91 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8X 1V6), or to In The Woods Animal Rescue (see website for drop off locations www.inthewoodsrescue.com).

Condolences

When I was a child, Mrs Gibson was a force that only the bravest of students tangled with. She led her class with a firm hand, hiding a soft heart. I didnâ??t appreciate that until I was older. I remember her saying â??Iâ??ll whip you with a wet noodleâ?? when youâ??d sassed her enough. I still use that comment with as much promise as her words ever held. Her smile and kind words while she worked at Costco will be missed. My condolences to the family.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences in your time of loss. Our shopping experience at Costco will never be the same without Verta and we have been missing her the last while. We literally would choose her every time upon leaving the building regardless of the fact that the other checker may not have anyone. She always had a word of wit or wisdom and we enjoyed the banter that often followed. Our hearts and prayers are with you all. I wish I could have known her on a more personal level. ♥️

To Doug and family, My family joins me in expressing our deepest sympathy to you and your family in this difficult time. Your Mom was a great friend and will be missed. We had many good times together over the years and some you may even remember. These precious moments we hold in our hearts forever. May your memories, faith and the love of family and friends comfort you now and in the days ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Roger.
