Obituary For Violet "Vi" Mae Piercey

Violet Mae Piercey, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, two weeks before her 61st birthday.

Violet “Vi” was born in Berwick, NS, however, she was raised in Aylesford, NS, with her sister Pam and her much loved mother and father. In her younger years, Vi loved spending time with her friends at the Sidetrack in Berwick where she eventually met her husband, Woody. Often, she went for long walks with him after the Sidetrack would shut down. She loved the musicians and sat right in the front as they performed, singing along. She personally befriended them and followed their music throughout her adult life. Music was a love of her life.

Vi had the ability to connect with others no matter where she went. Her bubbly character drew them to her heart. She loved serving others at various food venues which she worked in over the years until her painful back caused her to give that up. That was hard since she loved people.

Violet loved everything that was Christmas and would often start the countdown starting December 26th. She had many favorite movies, ornaments, decorations and battery-operated Christmas toys that would sing and dance. She got this love of Christmas from her mother, Sharon. She also had a love for movies. Her acquaintance with all the actors and actresses and the movies they acted in was amazing, and she would immediately google any information that she didn’t know. Curling and certain TV shows were enjoyed with her family. Vi was passionate about writing poetry (which she was amazing at), and playing words games with her daughter as well as participants from other places of the world.

The past few years she was unable to leave her home, due to her limiting medical condition. Though she was unable to travel, her best friend Irene, sent her many pictures through which Vi was able to experience the world. She loved that! Her dear sister-in-law Vi helped her out immensely and was always there to help. Violet held her family dear to her heart and talked of them often; there were many phone calls and facetiming with her treasured daughter, Megan.

Left to mourn is her beloved husband Woodrow “Woody” Piercey; daughter Megan Keddy (Alex Nikodim); grandchild Amber (Finnley) Ogilvie; sister Pamela (Tim) Peddle; sisters-in-law: Violetta Jones, Valerie McCarthy, and Ann Hillier; brothers-in-law: Mike Piercey, Craig Piercey, Chris Piercey, Shane Piercey, and Jamie Piercey; niece Kelsey (Kyran) Pennell; nephew Adam Bent; niece-in-law Diane (Al) Hillier; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Violet was predeceased by her parents, Sharon and Ronald Murphy; as well as her in-laws, Marie and Alfred Piercey.

A Celebration of Life was held in Violet’s honor on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 3:30 PM by close family and friends,
