Obituary For Wilfred Albert Rigler

With immense sadness, we announce the passing of Wilfred Albert Rigler, beloved father, grandpa, brother and friend. Wilf passed away August 23rd, 2024 with family at his side.

Wilf was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, the second oldest in a family of seven children. His youth was that of a typical farm boy and son of a mechanic: hours in the field or tinkering with farm equipment. He then proceeded to complete his mechanics and heavy duty mechanics in order to begin a new life on the quarter section of land he purchased and considered his forever home. He married Jeanne and raised his young family of three kids Robbie, Connie and Maria while clearing the land, farming, and establishing one of his greatest accomplishments - his business, Rainbow Automotive.

When his kids were young adults, Wilf remarried (Linda) and became a stepfather to Kyle and Travis. He worked to expand his business before he retired. He made many memories traveling and bought a house in Mesa and later in Kelowna. After a recent separation, Wilf came back to his happy place to reside permanently on his acreage in Grande Prairie with family and friends at his side.

Wilf loved hunting, mowing the lawn, heavy equipment, old cars, the news, watching the Oilers and making lists. He truly loved the outdoors and this was shown with the meticulous care he took maintaining his yard and decades of hunting and camping.

Wilf was known to zip around the acreage on his scooter or other farm toys (skidsteer, backhoe, side-by-side, etc.) and get stuck in random places where he would sometimes call for assistance to the amusement of family and friends. He was a master at putzing and created all sorts of MacGyver-style inventions to help him with his daily work on the acreage. No words can adequately express how deeply he is missed by his children, son Rob (Victoria) and grandchildren Korbin and Halli; daughters Connie, (Chris) Buck and grandchildren Ryanne, Ember and Payten Musselman; and Maria (Doug Nilsson), grandchildren Brandon (Cherokee), great grandchildren Roark and Mia; and Taylor (Reece).

Please join us anytime between 11:00am -1:30pm for a Memorial tea and coffee on Thursday, August 29th at Oliver’s Funeral Chapel.

Wilf was a brilliant man, a great dad and friend. We share many happy memories working with horses and cattle, and farming both at his farm and his dad's farm in our younger years and we were close hunting partners for many years where he truly enjoyed the outdoor adventures we had. Sadly after he remarried, our relationship became strained. He supported our family in every way that a caring dad and Grandpa does, with joy and love in his heart. He was one of the few remaining with old school morals, ethics and honour in our ever changing world, refusing to exchange face to face conversation with non personal "social media". He loved Grande Prairie and the home that he build with his own hands so many years ago. He will be missed dearly, Rob Rigler and family

We were so fortunate to have Wilf live across from us in West Kelowna. He was always so pleasant, kind and approachable - we enjoyed our talks. Even though mobility may have been difficult for him, he still did so much. To watch him shovel snow from his wheelchair made our shovelling snow while standing up a joy. He was a trooper. In our last talk just before he moved, he expressed his happiness for family and Grande Prairie. I would guess he was where he wanted to be. I was able to tell him that he was a great neighbour and that we would miss him and his spirit. We are reminded to treat each day as a gift. Thanks Wilf.

Uncle was very much like Grandpa Percy. Very happy, yet had a good sense of humor and mischief. He was a good man. My mom often told stories of them growing up. In the days to come may you find peace and comfort knowing you are surrounded with love and people to support share memories with. Hugs to all the family.
