Obituary For Willard Cooke

Willard Keith Cooke

Willard K. Cooke, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at QEII Hospital (not Covid related), at the age of 82 years.

Willard started his career in life living close to the airport on a dairy farm. When the barn burned down and the cows were lost, he worked for Windsor Ford parts department, then as an electrician for Cookshaw, then on to commission paper mills- Proctor and Gamble, Louisiana Pacific, and Ainsworth. He owned and operated the West Port Inn for several years.

An avid hunter, the deep freeze was kept full. His love for cats tended to get out of hand occasionally, at times totaling 39 cats. His love for cats was paralleled by the love he had for dogs, raising and showing Norwegian Elkhounds and raising American Eskimos. He held many trophies for his prowess in trap shooting.

Willard will be sadly missed by wife Pat; daughter Alice (Kevin) James: grandson Dylan (Mollie) and great-granddaughter Margot, granddaughter Sarah (Brendin) Lloyd and great-grandchildren Rowan and Caleb, granddaughter Marina James; daughter Margaret Cooke: grandson Kyle (Courtney) Belyan and great-granddaughters Ellie and Roe, grandson Jordan Belyan, grandson Brandon (Shelby) Belyan and great-grandsons Ryker and Kaz, granddaughter Christine (Abram) Dueck and great-grandsons Henry and Ezra; brother Ron Cooke and his children; sister in-law and brother in-law Kim and Mike St Hilaire; brother in-law and sister in-law Myrle and Carol Peters; niece Megan (Troy) Welder and son Elliot; as well as many other cousins and family members, and not to forget his best friend and hunting buddy Ed Hartson.

He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Nellie Cooke; sisters Mary Tanner and Wilma Janzen; and nephew Steven St Hilaire.
