Obituary For William “Dave” Lougheed
Dave Lougheed, a lifelong Grande Prairie, AB, resident, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 24, 2023, at his farm home, at the age of 85 years.
Dave was born into a farming family and farmed in the Grande Prairie area his entire life until his retirement. Hecultivated many good friends over the years, and he was an extremely loyal and honorable person. He was known throughout the Peace Country as a professional farmer who set high standards in the farming community. Dave’s biggest nemesis in life was weeds, which made it difficult to find one of them in his crop or his fantastically manicured home yard.
Dave met Janet, a young nurse, in 1960, she quickly became the love of his lifeand they were married in 1963. Dave and Janet worked very hard over the years and struggled like most people of that time to make ends meet. He worked his winters driving a logging truck which supplemented his farm income. His health was in decline the past couple of years but he still managed to do some of the yard and carpentry work he enjoyed.
Dave and Janet spent 17 winters in Sun City, West Arizona. They met countless new friends in the winter months down south where Dave spent a good deal of his time in the community carpentry shop. He was always learning and trying new things which became his passion in life. Again, everything Dave put his hand to was built to perfection and with love. Dave and Janet traveled extensively to many countries all over the world. He was a humble man with so many attributes and talents.
Dave was a mentor and a teacher who always strived to see the best and get the best out of people. If you were a friend, you were a friend for life. Dave will always be remembered for his kindness and the way he treated people. He will be missed fondly by family and friends, the great memories he left us will be told over and over, keeping Dave Lougheed alive in our hearts and minds
Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years Janet; his two children and their children: son Stan Lougheed (Jamie),Maegan, Spencer and Olivia; daughter Terri (Doug) Tattrie, and DJ. Dave is also survived by his brother Rob Lougheed (Sharon),and his sister Lyla McKinney. Dave will also be remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews from the Lougheed and Smashnuk families.
Dave was predeceased by his father Stanley; his mother Jessie; as well as his brothers in-law Mike McKinney and Bruce Smashnuk.
A Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on Dave’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army Community and Family Services (9615 102 St., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 2T8), or to a charity of one’s choice.

Auntie Janet, Terri, Stan and DJ, Uncle Dave was one of the kindest gentle souls I have ever met. I am so grateful to have had you guys in my life growing up in GP. The numerous dinners at the Dragon Palace, the shirley temples, the hunting with the argos, and so many great memories I have of Uncle Dave over the years. I will really miss you Uncle D, and I love you to pieces. Thankfully I have photo albums filled with many memories of so many good times we had. Sending you guys love, hugs and our condolences from Duncan and I in High River. I hope to see you soon Auntie Janet. Love you lots.

Janet so sorry for your loss. John and I had our motor home parked at your place for a few years. We also purchased a lot of your treasured items at your sale. Dave always made sure when we took our motorhome out it was washed before we left. He was a wonderful gentleman and will be missed.
