Obituary For William John Gingles
Johnny Gingles, longtime resident of Beaverlodge, AB, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Beaverlodge at the age of 74.
Johnny was born July 28, 1943 and lived in the Beaverlodge area his whole life. He grew up on a farm in Halcourt with 5 brothers and a sister, and a piece of his heart would forever be left “on the farm”.
He is widely remembered for his years of owning and operating the Pool Hall and all the joy his establishment brought to his many friends and customers. Well known and very loved by his community, but always a joker. He had a quick laugh and an easy smile. He loved even a short visit with any of his many friends. Also well known for a fondness to sweets and his delight in sharing them, especially with kids.
In the past, Johnny loved curling, camping and fishing, playing crib and visiting. He loved any time on Jim’s Trapline and his Friday nights at the Tavern, and he had friends to enjoy with him, the things he loved to do. In recent years he was most often found touring on his scooter and collecting bottles.
Johnny was a strong, proud and resilient man who faced extreme challenges and attacked difficulty head on. He didn’t give up and he kept a positive attitude the whole way.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters: Laura (Dan), Mary Jayne (Bruce), Victoria (Winston), Lyza, and Amber (Jamie); son in-law David; grandchildren: Ginger, Ronnie, Clayton, Lindsey, Alex (Norton), Ashley (Rudy), Chris (Rose), Sidney, Chase (Teagan), Davis, and Bowen; as well as 7 great-grandchildren; brothers: Jim (Louise), Joe (Marianne), and Doug; and sister Mary. He will also be missed by longtime friend Gordon Jeffery and the Jeffery family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jo Gingles. Also by his mother Grace Kozan, father Hugh Gingles, step-father Andrew Kozan; brothers Robert Gingles and Tom Gingles; sister in-law Marna Gingles; brother in-law Fred Hennigar; and step-sister Teresa Khorhonen.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Alliance Church in Beaverlodge (409 10th St.).
Memorial donations may be made to Beaverlodge Elks #249 (Box 895, Beaverlodge, AB, T0H 0C0).

Johnny lived across the hall from my Grandma at Amisk. Whenever I brought my two young children to visit, Johnny was incredibly sweet and made a point to joke with them and always gave them each a full sized chocolate bar. He really made their day every time we visited. He seemed to truly have a heart of gold. My condolences to his family. I'm sure he will be missed by many.
