Wilmot Richard White was born on April 29, 1942, in Peace River, AB, to Wilmot Richard “Bill” and Gurney Eliza Melevena (nee Chilton) White. Richard passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital at the age of 82 years.

Richard became a big brother when his parents welcomed Carol and completed their family. Richard and Carol began their schooling in Peace River and while still in elementary school, the family relocated to Grande Prairie, AB, where they both graduated high school.

Richard went on to attend NAIT in Edmonton, AB, and became an automotive and heavy-duty mechanic by trade. He was employed at Tire Town in Grande Prairie, and also drove gravel truck. He spent twenty years as the main mechanic at Majestic Tire Distributors Ltd, until his retirement in 2011. He never missed a day of work and only took a half day off when his beloved dog died. He even hosted the staff party on his property a couple of times with overnight camping.

Richard lived a simple life and loved being on his acreage in the county of Grande Prairie. He enjoyed many years of volunteering as a pit crew mechanic on stock cars with buddies in the North Peace Bracket Racing Association. He spent time with his parents often, and after his father’s passing on March 24, 1997, he went to his mother’s house daily for lunch until she passed away on July 28, 2004. After that Richard was known to have the same lunch every day- two slices of white bread with one slice of bologna. Rich was able to live on his acreage until he had a fall in January 2025 and was unfortunately hospitalized until his own passing.

Richard has left his pain behind and was predeceased by both his parents. He is survived by his sister, Carol and her partner Bob, and by all his friends.

Friends and family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff on Unit 23 at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for the care of Richard.

As per his wishes, Richard will be cremated and laid to rest at the Grande Prairie Cemetery.

A Memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 – 107 Ave). Interment to follow.
