Obituary For Wing Wong
On Friday, October 2, 2015, Kim Wing Wong passed away, with family at his side, in Grande Prairie, AB, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 87 years.
Wing, the eldest of the two sons of Yee Shung and Wong Wo, was born on October 17, 1927 in Toi Shan, China. He immigrated to Canada in 1951. He first worked in Edmonton, AB where he acquired his culinary skills. In 1956 he journeyed back home to accompany the rest of his family to Canada. In 1957, he relocated to Grande Prairie, AB where he established the Shangri-La Restaurant. Years later, with the opportunities of a new business venture, along with his business partners, the Golden Star Restaurant was opened in 1969. During these years of hard work and dedication to the business, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, travelling and watching sports.
At the age of 65, he retired and enjoyed 22 years of blessed retirement life.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Bow, children: Carrie (Daniel), Ken (Meta), Jean and Tom; grandchildren: Jennifer (Alvin), Aaron and Kina; great-grandchildren: Makara and Kristopher; sister in-law Evelyn; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wing was predeceased by his parents and brother Jack.
The Viewing and Visitation service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 7:00-9:00pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave).
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 2:30pm at Oliver’s Funeral Home.
Interment to follow at Grande Prairie Cemetery (84th Ave and 112th St.)
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Pope and all the medical professionals and staff at the QEII Intensive Care Unit along with the many thoughtful friends for their help and condolences during this difficult time.
