Obituary For Winnie McPherson

Winnie McPherson, longtime resident of Woking, AB, passed away peacefully from a lengthy battle with cancer on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

She was born January 16, 1936 in Goodwin, AB and raised in Teepee Creek. Winnie settled in Woking for the next 55 years.

Winnie shared a lot of moments with her family, friends and others at the farm. Her biggest passions were music, horses and sing-alongs.

Winnie worked various jobs for Alberta transportation, maintaining campsites, and weed inspecting; but her most cherished position was being a Fire Guardian for Alberta Forestry for approximately 13 years. She was very active in the PARD’s ride, 4H, and Kids Riding Camp.

She was a strong willed, compassionate, and selfless woman that had battled cancer for 26 years.

If she was ever asked how she was, she would say “I’ll be okay”.

Winnie is survived by her partner Lloyd; children: Randal (Christine), Norma (Tom), Audrey (Myron), Brent (Judy), Lynn (Mark) and Shawna (Darrel); various grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; along with her sister Shirley (Alvin).

She was predeceased by mother Iva McAughey.

The Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 1:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). The Celebration of Life will be at Woking Hall at 5:00pm for friends and family.

Memorial donations may be made to Sorrentino’s Compassion House (10909 76 Ave., Edmonton, AB, T6G 0J6) or to Grande Prairie Hospice Palliative Care Society (Box 21215, Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6W7).

I am so sad to hear of Winnieâ??s passing. I spent several wonderful times with Winnie, and Lloyd, singing along to their guitar and fiddle music,, along with my mom, Lola, who loved Winnie dearly. Winnie was a cousin of my Mom, and I know mom always held counted Winnie as one of her most cherished friends. Winnieâ??s laughter and kindness was infectious and I will always remember her with such fondness. My condolences to all of you who loved her.
