Obituary For Zelda Irene Fraser

“Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.”

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Zelda Irene Fraser, Sister, Aunt, Great-Aunt, Great Great-Aunt, Cousin, and Friend, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at the age of 82 years. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Prairie Lake Hospice in Grade Prairie, AB.

Zelda was born November 18, 1936, at Johanna’s Maternity Home in Sexsmith, weighing only 3lbs 4oz, the youngest of eight children born to Colin and Elizabeth Fraser. She grew up in Teepee Creek, lived in Sexsmith, then moved to Grande Prairie Care Center and attended Peace School of Hope. For the last 46 years, she was a client of Signature Support, where she was treated as family.

Zelda will always be remembered for her love of music. She loved to sing or hum along to the music and even would stand and hold on to something and shuffle her feet to the beat. Zelda will also be remembered for her great smile, never complaining, her ability to get along with others, and her countless hours of working for New Generations making plastic flowers.

She will be sadly missed by her sister Blanche Pack, brother Bob (Doris) Fraser, brother in-law Don Allan, nieces and guardians Linda Dunbar and Joyce Tomshak, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, caregivers, roommates and friends.

Zelda was predeceased by her parents Colin and Elizabeth Fraser; sisters: Ruth Coe, Isabel Lay, Zanne Allan, and Dorothy Rycroft; brother Harold Fraser; brothers in-law Murray Lay, Gordon Rycroft, Harold Coe, and Ken Pack; nephews Delbert Rycroft, and Lynford Fraser; and great-nephew Robbie Fraser.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 11:00am, at St. Paul’s United Church in Grande Prairie (10206 100 Ave.). Lunch to follow service. Interment to take place at Teepee Creek Cemetery. A Viewing will be held prior at 10:00am.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pope, Home Care staff, Signature Support and their great team of caregivers, and the Hospice Staff for the great care Zelda has received over the years, and especially the last four months.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PARDS (710009 RgRd 55, County of Grande Prairie #1, AB, T8W 5A7) or the charity of one’s choice.
